Over the past 3 days the volunteers of Newell have
responded to 15 runs. Thursday brought a few medical
calls and an auto accident with entrapment in Mallard
Creek. Due to the location of the call Charlotte Fire
was notified and responded as well. CFD arrived to find
a t-bone accident with 1 patient trapped. L-27 popped
the door prior to the arrival of Mallard Creek and Heavy
Rescue 1.
Friday brought a few more
medical calls, but for some reason the I-85 North
corridor from Mallard Creek Church Road to the County
line was a magnet for accidents. Newell Volunteers
responded to 4 separate incidents in this stretch of
I-85. Assisted by Concord Fire and Mallard Creek Fire
Dept, Newell provided patient care and mitigated all
hazards associated with the accidents.
Saturday slowed down bringing the
volunteers 4 runs. A medical, possible entrapment in
Mallard Creek, a fire alarm in Robinson, and first due
auto accident with ejection and entrapment. At approx
2130 hours Newell was dispatched to the 3700 block of
Back Creek Church Road for an accident where the car
struck a power pole (CFD E-34 also responded). Newell 10
arrived to find a single vehicle on the roof, one
ejected and one entrapped, and assumed Back Creek Church
Command. Newell Heavy Rescue 1 and Newell Engine 1
responded with 13 volunteers and arrived on scene right
behind E-34. Newell members went to work assessing the
entrapped patient and developed an extrication plan.
Members set up lighting and extrication tarps as well as
started to grab the portable pump and tools before a
combative patient self extricated. Newell cleared the
scene at approx 2230 hours.
